What type of photos the settings are used for and what purposes are they used for in real life scenarios?.

Aperture – Aperture is a hole within a lens, through which light travels into the camera.  Aperture has several effects on your photographs the important is the brightness, or exposure of your images, as aperture changes in size it alters the amount of light that reaches your camera sensor, a wider opening will pass a lot of light through, meaning your images will be brighter. a small aperture does the opposite, making your photo darker. If you want a clear view of your object and your background you are likely to set your aperture to medium, which makes it so its clear to see but not too over exposed. I’d say aperture is used a lot in product photography.

Shutter speed – Shutter speed is responsible for two particular things; changes the brightness of your photo and creating dramatic effects by either freezing action or blurring motion. It is the length of time your camera shutter is open , exposing light into the camera sensor ( how long your camera spends taking a photo). If your shutter speed is long, moving subjects in your photo will appear blurred which is used often in car advertisements, slow shutter speed is used in dim environments  with a tripod, landscape photographers may use a low shutter speed to create a sense of motion on rivers and waterfalls while keeping everything else completely sharp.

ISO – ISO is one of the three most important settings on your camera that is used to take well exposed photos, the others are aperture and shutter speed. The lower the number the Lower the sensitvity your camera is to light and the finer the grain in the shots you’re taking , higher numbers the higher the sensitivity is to light which allows you to use your camera in darker situations, the cost of doing so is more grain.

F / stop – F/ stop is the ratio of the systems focal length to the diameter of the entrance pupil, anything below F/ stop 5.6 Is high exposure as the pupil is wider letting more light through, F/ stop  5.6 and upwards consist of a dark photo as there is less light coming through and a higher depth of field, Aperture and F/ stop work together to adjust how exposed your image is.

Sport mode – Sports mode is a little running figure on your setting dial which is a quick setting to adapt the camera with these typical settings; increase ISO to a higher setting, reduce F/ stop for a shallower depth of field, increase the shutter speed to help stop fast action, increase frame advance to highest setting ( measured in frames per second) and adjust focus mode to adaptive of artificial servo. When using this mode typically the ISO is set to 400or above, but depending on light conditions and lens selection this can be slower , reducing F/ stop will help isolate the action in the scene , usually used when taking a shot of a person in action, a car, a horse etc. I find sports mode works better with a long sense and is used in action/ sport photography.

Portrait mode – Portrait mode is used for taking portraits, this setting edits your face blemishes and flaws to make you look professional, used for portrait photography.

For this task I was told to bring in several objects suitable to take pictures of, of which I had to complete a shoot experimenting with aperture, I used a range of objects including a jewlery stand, a candle and the end of a curtain rack, here are the pictures I created.
